Living Room Update : Sorbet Hues and Gallery Wall

Dear blogfriends!

I am emerging from my inspiration coma? I don't know, but yesterday, I had a day off and I finally overcame my paralysis and dared to make some holes in my wall!

Do you remember how was the styling before?
Cute. I really liked it and this pic has even got some success on Pinterest.
But I was sick of it!

So, a few week ago, inspired by Orlando Soria's styling, I tried this :

It was ok (except those wire!!!)

But then, a few days later, we got our new table...
And, gosh, it is WHITE!

For some days (weeks), I HATED it!

It was super drab and those chairs (that I do like) are really not working with it.
(Just a few more weeks to get the new chairs, hopefully!)

So Yesterday, I collected arts and pics.

It needed some "peps", so I grabbed a brush and some paint...

1. This is the first look :

I think it's nice but the neon pink art is hung to high.

2. Second look :

3. Third look :

Which one do you prefer? (The art above the piano is supposed to be changed, of course).

(The cushions are from Hema).

By the way, I have to present you new comers...

This vintage Vener Panton lamp (from ebay, but the tension needs to be fixed) :

And this knitted pouf from Hema!

New Rattan Chair For Anouk's Bedroom : Which Color?

Dear blogfriends,

Circle rattan chairs are very popular for the moment. They are vintage, cool, bohemian, hippie chic... They taste like Palm Beach's spirit...

Especially for kids :

Lovely right?

Via : Bloesem

I found this one on ebay for a steal (5 euros)... for Anouk's bedroom.
The shape is great.

I was planning to paint it but I'm not sure about the color. I was thinking a charcoal grey or a hot pink... maybe a turquoise...

Also, I received it yesterday and I noticed that the chair is covered by different layer of lack, so I'm have to strip it anyway.

Maybe if the rattan is in good condition, I could leave it as it and maybe just paint the legs in a hot pink?

What do you think?

Side Lamps Selection

Dear blogfriends,

Lamps are definitely what I prefer in design, besides art and chairs.

I've been thinking a lot about the lightings in our living room. I found lately this cute vintage lamp that was meant for the desk, but is actually on the piano.

So we still need a desk lamp and also a side lamp.

I've been looking on craigslist for a while. I wanted a mushroom lamp.
I was on this cutie on ebay, but a (very mean) person bid 4 sec before the end.
Since then, I haven't seen any that i liked.

So I looked for contemporary ones :
Like this replica of Verner Panton's flowerpot lamp :
Or this cutie...

I also like the iconic Scandinavian Milk Lamp :

I've been also tempted by other models (not mushroom models) like the Block lamp:

Or the iconic Bourgie lamp by Kartell. I think the chrome one would work better at home :

I don't know which one I prefer. Most of them are quite a budget, which makes the choice even more difficult. which one do you prefer?

For the desk, however, I found this very cute and budget friendly lamp (19,99 euros) at Ikea. what do you think?

Reader's Question : Home Office

Dear readers,

Yesterday, my great friend and supporter Stefania submitted a request : Hello Marie, I recall you wrote about the solution you created for a desk/ printer in your living room...I was wondering, would you publish something inspired about solutions for home office?

I want this blog to be interactive so I was very pleased with Stefania's request! And, of course, I'll be happy to help you.

Jenny Komenda, the blogger behind the amazing blog Little Green Notebook, shared some thoughts some times ago about what you need and do not need in a home office :

****
YOU NEED

- A pretty desk, with a place to put away your computer
- A cool-looking filing cabinet or other storage piece with large drawers
- An armoire or cupboard for storing your printer/scanner
- A comfortable chair that provides good support (if you must have an "office chair", invest in something good with a name like Miller/Eames)
- At least one lovely and interesting table lamp
- A rug to keep things soft underfoot
- Inspiring art

YOU DO NOT NEED

- A boxy, cubicle feeling computer desk unit with a million drawers and cubbies
- A cheesy, gooseneck "desk lamp"
- A rolling office chair
- A rolling chair plastic mat thing
- An inspiration board.

***

I think this list is GOLD! I especially LOVE the "not needed" list (the first three where my boyfriend's prerequisites...).
Of course, life is easier if you have a laptop (I don't) and even easier if you have a Mac (what I don't, obvi).

I my opinion, if you want to be functional, you can choose a quite inexpensive and modulable solution for the table. Let say... Ikea?
But the problem with their desk are is the usually massive legs.

The best is to work with trestles (if you have a laptop) or a combination of trestles and the vika drawers. I also kind of like this one.

Look, those are all Ikea tables :

What makes the difference?
A fancy lamp and a gorgeous chair.

1. Chairs

For the chair, you can go for design classics like above : Eames or Starck. But if you want big impact for a few pennies, I recommend to look on 2ememain.be

You will find amazing pieces that just need to be reupholstered (or not) to get a new life.

2. Lamps

If you want a desk lamp, you will find many cool items on ebay. I recommend also the vintage shop Mouche. in Brussels.

Personally, I'd like something less industrial. Santa almost went for that one on Monday...

.... but it can't be delivered in Belgium...
So I am still looking...
I think I saw something nice in Habitat. I'll have to check again...

Well, Stefania. I hope this will inspire you!
I have a few more ideas to share but this post is long enough, so stay tuned!

Geometric Chandelier for the Dinning Room

 Hello!

Everyone knows Sex and the City and Gossip Girl are a huge source of inspiration for clothes and fashion. But you remember Carry saying in S&C I "she left clothes for furniture"? It's totally true! Decor are at least as important as fashion in S&C movies.

Remember this dinning room? Amazing!

I especially like the ceiling lamp. I think it makes the room (also the outstanting backsplach tiles).

In Gossip Girl I L.O.V.E. the Bass-Van der Woodsen penthouse. I spoke about Serena's bedroom here, but the living room is quite amazing too. Both were designed by Christina Tonkin.

I am very much inspired by the suspension above Lily's desk (I need to find the reference).

I think suspensions are a very good way to create a chic and unique space. I've been looking on ebay for a geometric vintage chandelier and I found the same as  Gino Sarfatti's lightolier.

This suspension is identified authentic and was sold 500$. (I bought mine 116 euros, so I think I was a good deal).

At first, I was thinking for the sleeping room, like in the pic below.

Then I though it could look good in the entry way :

But right now, I am pretty sure I want it for the dinning room. What do you think?

The suspension above and two last suspensions bellow are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G . The price is on demand (!) on Delighfull.eu.

The store has an interesting blog on lightings.
