In My Pinterest Right Now

Dear blogfriends,

I hope you're having - wherever you are - a nice summer time!

I have 15 days off from Friday and I can't wait!!! The first week will be dedicated to some home projects and relaxing time at my parent's house and we'll spend the second week with my sister in law's family in Britany, France!

In the meanwhile, I am refinnishing my terrasse floor (more about that tomorrow) and procrastinating on pinterest.

Here what's I'm considering :

1. Cute stationnary organizer :

I found one at Anthropologie. Should I order it??

2. Inspiring Art by Guy Yanai

3. New DIY project?

4. Calm and Inspiring Bedrooms

I am seriously considering this Ikea headboard. I think I would look great in our bedroom.

The Truth About the Bedroom

Dear blogfriends,

I really wished I could post a real room reveal, but this is not happening yet.

We worked a lot and we are more than half way through. But things have been difficult. The built-in closet was a to ambitious DIY. We did a great job and I am very happy with what we have done. But I would not do it again.

There have been some mistakes also with the paint color and the window treatment.
The architectural layout is also wrong. I want to fix that by displacing the heater.

Anyway, this is a short overview of what we've done yet!

1. Good things :

a. I now like the paint color as headboard color (so at the end, it should remains on just one wall).
b. I love the Gion Sarfatti light fixture (mounted this WE).
c. The window treatment is now much better, but still not perfect.
d. We are almost done with the built-in closet and I think we did a great job.
e. I am pretty happy with the artificial lighting. We used 3000 Kelvin's LED and halogen. I'll post about that.

2. Indulgence

a. As you can notice, one circuit isn't working on the fixture. So we'll have to unmount it to fix it. What a pain.
b. Window treatment (already redone, I'll post about that) is still not perfect as it doesn't allow to open the window the easiest way. So we'll have to change it again.
c. Biggest indulgence : the heater is placed on the wrong side of the room. I think the bed should face the entry. So we will have to get it displaced.
d. I'd like to get rid of this Ikea furniture. The dresser is just collecting clutters and the bedside tables are ugly.

We tried a few days ago to put the bed in front of the entry... much better!!!
(sorry for the poor quality of the pic)

3. The pics you shouldn't have seen

This is what the room looked like just a month ago. Just seeing this pictures makes me wanna cry.
(I don't apology for the quality of the pics because you don't want to see more!)

Kids Chair and Table Set Makeover

Hello!

Today, I'll share a very simple and cheap makeover in three steps :
- Sanding
- Washing
- Painting

Remember we started with this Ikea set found on the street :

It just needed a bit of love. Now, Anouk is having the best time of her life with it!

Sanding was super easy. I put all the pieces a part and sanded with a sanding sponge. The grain wasn't thinck so I was afraid it wouldn't work, but in fact it worked perfect. Can you tell the difference?

Much better indeed!

It took like 30 to 45 minutes to do both, table and chair.
Then, right after that you have to wash it with St Marc wash.

It is very important, especially for something found on the street, but also because it will open the wood fibers and allow the paint to stick better.

Sneak peek in the bathroom.

See how gross?

The two steps belows can be completed in one evening. Then the wood has to dry 48 hours.

About painting, I choosed a latex based paint for the chair (a sample was enough :-)) and used a small roll (that you can spot in the pic below). It dried super quickly and I could re-assembled the chair the same night.

For the table, however, I choosed a oil based paint. A well known french popular song says that oil paint is more difficult but prettier than water based paint. This is so true!

First, it is sticky and dries so slowly  (24 hours between each coats). It took a week to get the table done! Then oil is like nail polish : use a brush, load it with a big amount of paint, go slowly and DON'T go back.

Of course many times I did go back, but really the finish is much better on the parts I resisted the temptation.

This is what our LR looked like for a week...

For the top, I used chalckboard paint that I applied with a roll. Very easy.

I can't get enough of that color combo!

(This cracks me up!)

Washi Tape Ideas

Have you whashi taped your interior yet?

I did last WE!

There's a wall in Anouk's bedroom where we have to mount shelves. But in the meanwhile it looked very bare.

Now it looks like this :

I love the idea of creating a ephemera decor, just like an installation!
The postcards are from Alice Depage, bought at Pepin la lune.

Here are some inspiration that I pinned lately :

Cozamia Art Print and DIY Canvas

Nancy Ramirez is a very talented infografist who creates the most inspiring prints ever.

I love the colors and I love how her (very affordable) art can add a touch of color and glam into any interior.

Her blog is currently closed, but you can check her art shop. She sets up the most beautiful vignettes with her art and her to-die-for amazing collection of lamps!

Above pics form : Cozamia

This last print inspired me a DIY canvas last summer. I didn't record the making-off, but it was very easy (I used acrylic) :

1. I first painted the canvas in white
2. I put painter tape
3. I randomly painted
4. I took off the tape
5. To avoid some difference of texture between white and colors, I added some white paint in the stripes
6. I painted the slides in brass
