Dinning Nook : Back to the Start and Thonet Chairs

Dear blogfriends,

So I ordered Bertoia chairs at Retrofurnish. They announced 10-18 weeks for the production but whatever.

This month I was beyond trilled to received these chairs... but had no news.
I contacted the firm and they were very sorry to inform me that the producer forgot to produce them.

So we have 3 options :
- wait 18 more weeks
- choose what they have in stock
- get refunded

I really don't know what to do...
I asked them what they have in stock to see if we like something. I am not sure I want to wait 18 more weeks.

And, in the meanwhile, I fell in love with the Thonet chairs...

Do you remember this house?

There was also this pic from RUM mag :

And this über cool minty kitchen :
I love them. I think they have a lot of character, while being modern and unformal at the same time.

The good thing is that I spotted a few on craiglists and I think I could buy 6 chairs for the price of 1 reproduction of the Bertoia.

What do you think? Should I get refunded and go for the Thonet or stick with the first choice?

Hello Tulips (Bye Bye Christmas Tree)!

Dear blogfriends,

How are you?
I was sick today - and slept all day long - and I'll need to stay how until Thursday at least.
I am very tired so I won't write a long post.

I just wanted to share these pictures I took on Sunday.
We took away the Christmas tree and I love the fresh tulips we bought.

It give such a nice and crisp atmosphere.

It makes me feel better while I'm sick!

Country Side Dinning and Living Room Inspiration from Rue Magazine

I'm a big fan of Rue Magazine. Everything featured is always very tasteful.
and the editing is pretty much perfect.

My parents live in an amazing 18th century water mill in belgian Ardennes.

This house :

Right now, they are undertaking major works in the dinning and living room.
I told them I'll document it on my blog, but it's not going to be finished any soon.

I'd like to share with them those very tasteful inspiration pics from Rue Mag because, when you undertake major works, it's always nice to dream a bit and to have some goals.

It think those interiors are quite their style.

The two first pics are a dinning room styled by Kelley Moore.

I like the lacquered table. My mum would like to change her dinning table, but maybe some spray paint could be needed?

Nice upholstered dinning chairs.

In the same issue, I also liked this Rhode Island House designed by Ore Studios.

I like the layered rugs.

Pretty french bergères upholstered with  graphic patterns.

Lovely side lamp.

I always love benches. I think it's a very nice way to save some space.

Two first pics from the last issue of Rue Magazine. The other pics coming from Ore Studios published in the last issue of Rue Magazine (October 2012).

Ideas for the Dinning Nook (3) : The Bertoia Chair

I am so so glad we (my boyfriend and I) made up our mind for the chair of the dinning nook.

I wanted a modern classic chair.

At first, my choice was the Eames chair.

I still love them, but I think they are a bit too industrial for me and would work better in a kitchen.

Then, I was truly loving this model from Habitat.

Which matches our office chair. I love how the leather warths up our interior. This is glam and cozy. But I think it would be too matchy-matchy (with the office chair) and quite "heavy" (because of the chrome and the leather).

It's not stricto sensu a design classic, but it reminds me those beautifull mid-century rooms.

Some other chairs came in discussion, like the Saarinen tulip chair.

But finally we agreed on...

I love that's unformal yet elegant and that you can play with cushions to make it cozier or lighter. We still have to make our choice for the cushions though...

Apartment therapy just published an article on this modern classic chair.

And you? Do you like modern classics? Which is you favorite? Have you some? I'd like to know...

Ideas for the Dinning Nook (2) : Options for the Table

The current table is a bit too small for the space and definitely too small to welcome more than four people. I bought it 7 years ago for peanuts form the former renters of my first apartment (along awful aneboda closets), so it is ok to splurge on a new table.

The chairs are adorable "Herve" chairs that I bought for 1 euro each and sanded years ago. I like them a lot, but they don't fill the space and look too shabby for the room.

I am usually very hesitant when its about decorating my house, but since I am ready to splurge a bit on this future set, I am even more hesitating...

Here is my check list :
1. No more Ikea in the living room!! I love Ikea but too much Ikea kills Ikea. Learn it.
2. Dinning room is, in my point of view, THE place where you can make a statement  : be vintage, be quirk
3. I know a round dining table will look better. It fits the space better.

Those are the tricks :

1. Round dining tables are spares. Not a lot of choices. Plus I want a pedestal. I despite four-feet round tables.
2. The table should be big enough for at least 6 people (more would be event better). But round tables usually don't have extensions.
3. White would be too white, but I already have three different finishes of wood in the living room (the coffee table, the kitchen and the piano), so can't have more wood. No wood, no white.
4. Last but not least : my boyfriend doesn't like round tables very much.

And the nominees are :

1.  Eero Sarrinen Tulip Table ( = for ever love)

Totally cute...

It comes in different finishes. The most common ones being white or marble.
Marble would be perfect, fullfilling point 3 of the check list.

It comes also in comes also in glod if you want :

It works with all kind of chairs.

Even rustic chairs :

I hunting on craigslist but the price of vintage ones is quite prohibitive. I found some seller on line, but the delay of delivery is about 18 weeks (so I can change my mind and torture myself a billion times before I get it).

Besides that, the only inconvinients are the fact it is not modulable and that my boyfriend doesn't like round tables.

2. Some other round tables on pedestal

Pretty :

Totally pretty :

To die for:

I could also find very cheap ones on craiglist and do a little makeover. This could be fun, but I get tired just thinking I have to go pick them in deep wallonia or flanders...

3. A rectangular table:

There are a few that are ok. But I am really not convinced...

My boyfriend likes this one :

I am fair ; this is a nice picture. But I think it is too "cold". It looks like an office meeting table. No. Really. I don't like it.

I would like this one better, I think :

Stockholm Table form Maison du Monde

So it's obvious which one I prefer... But would I survive 18 weeks for the delivery????

Ideas for the Dinning Nook (1) : Lovely Inspiration Pics

This is a tragedy. I just can't decide myself or just find the right things. I change my mind every day.
I have a pretty good idea of what I like, but I just can't get the thing done.

I need a method.

First, the inspiration.

I like glamourous, feminine, personnal, uncommon dinning rooms.

I like chrome, rich textures.
BUT, I don't have a coherent style. It could be all styles, from french to mid-century, as long as it is glamourous.

This one is amazing :

A love the Saarinen marble tulip table, not so much the chairs. However, like this, there is nothing to hate :

Faux bamboo chrome chairs. I love it, I am not joking.

Simple and cozy, yet glamourous and really stylish :

This is crazy. There is nothing special to this dinning set, however, it looks so chic.
