Hollywood Regency Week : Serene and Contemporary HR Inspired Home

Dear blogfriends,

Our Hollywood Regency Week is almost finished. I realize many aspect of this style hasn't been tackled. I'm sure we'll come back on that style.

However, today, I take the opportunity to present a blog that I like very much. I think it is very interesting to see how bloggers that are inspired by the same interiors, decorate their interior in a slightly different way.

Danielle Oakey is a very talented blogger and decorator. She can create very lovely and unique decors on a budget. She always gives very good tips!

We featured similar interiors on our blogs, like Lindsay Mens Craig's apartment or this house designed by Jessica Helgerson (just to give some examples), however, our personal styles are a bit different.

She introduced some Hollywood Regency's element in her home and used a very bright and happy color palette, so the result has enough drama and splendour. However, the neutral tones of the walls and of the sofa and the delicate use of the happy color palette create a serene an informal atmosphere that the scandinavian-interior-lover that I am totally love!

I'll always love a Eero Saarinen dinning room. The fabric used for the upholstered chairs reminds of the Hollywood Regency classic imperial treillis.

I also love campaigner inspired painted desk. The color is perfect.

Do you recognize the Chiang Mai fabric? I will love this fabric forever.

Hollywood Regency Week : Chinoiserie

How are you today? It's finally friday! But the Hollywood Regency Week is not finished yet!

Today is going to by a mix of glamour and exotism.

Chinoiserie is probably a style by itself but is also a key element of Hollywood Regency.

And it is a very easy way to add glam to an interior through accessories.

A big hit is the Chiang Mai Shumacher fabric. This gorgeous fabric is the favorite of many bloggers and it makes lovely cushions or accent chairs.

Hollywood Regency Week : Glam It Up With X-Benches

Hello!

Hollywood Regency loves seating areas and loves upholstering.

X-benches are a very easy and small-space-friendly way to glam up your interior (it provides also convenient occasional seating space).

Here are a few examples...

• Under a vanity :

These were very traditional interiors, but X-benches work perfectly in more modern and minimalistic interiors.

I love for instance the python X-benches in Jen Ramos' new apartment (the girl behind Madebygirl)!

I think she has exquisite taste and I love her modern interpretation of the Hollywood Regency Style.

She uses Hollywood Regency elements in a very contemporary way : animal prints, the Greek key, the tufted sofa (that sofa!!!), the contrasts (blacks and whites) and the textures (lucite, leather, velvet, fur).

It's perfect!

Hollywood Regency Week : Dorothy Draper Dresser

I hope you are as exited as I am for this Hollywood Regency Week!

One of my favorite element of Hollywood Regency Style is the campainer dresser, especially the Dorothy Draper's España Bunching Chest. People say that Dorothy Draper Dorothy Draper "was to decorating what Chanel was to fashion" and that "she took a world that was drab and dreary and made it colorful." Hollywood Regency Week : An Intro...

Dear blogfriends,

This week, I'd like to speak about a style that is a bit out of my comfort zone.

You know I love Scandinavian interiors : minimal, bright white, quite, earthy, with wood and natural textiles...

Well, this week I'll speak about Hollywood Regency which is pretty much the opposite : dramatic, with high color contrasts, luxurious, using upholstered or lacquered furniture, very rich textiles and mixing bold patterns.

Even if it is so different of what I use to show, I love this style and I'm sure somehow inspired by it.

The Hollywood Regency style originated in the golden age of Hollywood, as seen in the movies of the 1930's. I found a quite exhaustive post about the Hollywood Regency style on the very interesting blog Decor to Adore. Check it here. The author highlights the fact that those beautiful decor "provided a brief respite to an audience facing the bleak depression that gripped most of the nation".

This is an example of a traditional Hollywood Regency bedroom (although it could have been more colorful).

Yes, of course, it is a bit too much for me.

But you have some key element of the Hollywood Regency Style : upholstered furniture, diamond tufting, campaigners, brass, velvet, the bench...

The key elements are : the curtains (with the pelmet), the hot purple campaigner and, of course, the golden bergere upholstered with animal print fabric.
